My Teaching Styles

Acro

As a Module One (Levels 1-8) Certified Acrobatic Arts Instructor, my classes are based on the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus and emphasize safety, technique and proper progression of skills. Acro is a fusion of dance technique and Acrobatic skills. As stated by Acrobatic Arts, “Dancers who train through Acrobatic Arts have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless. Studios that implement this program will see dancers with more skills, who have fewer accidents, and are less likely to develop chronic injuries.”

Contemporary

Through my knowledge from Sarah Joyce at Steps Dance Centre, and numerous teachers from Concordia University, I teach and choreograph Contemporary dance in a unique style that encompasses various techniques from many dance styles. I emphasize the use of the spine as well as freedom of expression, fluidity of movement, and personal interpretation of music. Classes include technique exercises, floorwork, combinations and choreography.

Tap

Using your body as your instrument is amazing! Based on my technical knowledge from Rhonda Michalik, former owner of Steps Dance Centre, I teach and choreograph tap through simple and intricate rhythms, teaching students how to keep time and create even and syncopated beats that accompany and accent music of all kinds. From Tap basics to complex rhythms, Dancers will challenge their brains and better their musicality.

Creative Dance & Improvisation

Based on my knowledge from ‘Creative Dance for All Ages’ by Anne Greene Gilbert as well as my years of experience from different teachers, I teach improvisation through a method that fosters expressive movement. Gilbert’s approach advocates for exploration, improvisation, and collaboration. It emphasizes body and spatial awareness and rhythmic sensitivity through movement exercises and structured improvisation activities. Dancers will learn movement through concepts and gain skills to create their own choreography.

Young Children's Dance

I teach children’s dance beginning at age 3 across a variety of styles, including creative dance, tap, ballet, and jazz. Each style offers unique opportunities for growth and artistic exploration, and I delight in guiding children as they discover the beauty of movement. Young dancers explore their creativity, develop coordination, and cultivate body awareness.
